Gran Fondo Les Sybelles La Toussuire

The rebirth of La Trilogie de Maurienne

La Trilogie de Maurienne, a legendary cycle race held in the heart of La Maurienne, was born 30 years ago. An emblematic land of cycling, with its many passes made famous by the Tour de France, this year it has been reincarnated as the Gran Fondo Les Sybelles La Toussuire.

To mark this revival, the start of this world-class cycling event will be held in La Toussuire.

On 14 July 2025, you’ll have a choice of three different routes

This route takes you on an assault on one of the emblems of the Maurienne, the Lacets de Montvernier!

The little twists and turns, piled one on top of the other, clinging to the mountain, make up one of the most spectacular roads in Savoie, and a real challenge for cyclists.

With almost 300m of D+ to swallow in just over 3km, the 18 hairpin bends are not to be underestimated and you need to keep your pedal power up to leap up to the little village of Montvernier.

Once back down into the valley via La Tour en Maurienne, you’ll head back towards St Jean de Maurienne and the Opinel roundabout, the starting point for the famous Montée de La Toussuire!

This route will take you over some of the most beautiful passes in the Maurienne. After a compulsory, neutralised start from La Toussuire behind the opening car. You will cross St Jean de Maurienne before heading for St Etienne de Cuines.

You’ll start the day by climbing the fearsome Col du Glandon at an altitude of 1,924m. More isolated and quiet than its rivals, you climb it from the north. To get there, you’ll have to pedal for 20km on an average gradient of 7.2%. Save your energy for the last few hairpin bends, where the gradients soar.

At the summit, you’ll take the link to the Col de la Croix de Fer to recharge your batteries at the refreshment station. After around 25 kilometres, you’ll head downhill to reach the valley. Turn left towards La Toussuire. The last climb of the day, the Montée de La Toussuire!

This route is the showcase of the Gran Fondo Les Sybelles La Toussuire: mythical passes, legendary roads, breathtaking panoramas and a good dose of sportiness!
Although this route is reserved for very good cyclists who are used to long efforts, there’s nothing to stop you from challenging yourself by taking the start of this event.

After a compulsory, neutralised start from La Toussuire behind the opening car, you will cross St Jean de Maurienne before heading for La Chambre. Before reaching La Chambre, take a quick look to your right to appreciate the beauty of the Lacets de Montvernier that you will be climbing. Continue on to Epierre before turning around to tackle the first difficulty of the day and the first real gradients. On the way back to St Etienne de Cuines, you’ll begin the ascent of the fearsome Col du Glandon at an altitude of 1,924m. More isolated and quiet than its rivals, you climb it from the north. To get there, you’ll need to pedal for 20km on an average gradient of 7.2%. Save your energy for the last few hairpin bends, where the gradients soar.

Once at the summit, head for the Col de la Croix de Fer for a refreshment stop. Make the most of the descent into the valley via St Sorlin d’Arves to get your legs moving and get back into the swing of things until you reach the foot of the Montée de La Toussuire. Another refreshment point awaits you halfway up the climb, at Fontcouverte La Toussuire, before you put in your last effort to reach the finish line!

This route is one of the Cyclo’Tour routes. With 7 rounds throughout the year on some of France’s finest cyclosportives. The Cyclo’Tour is a challenge combining terroir and cycling in the heart of exceptional regions.
