Cycling looping: Lacets de Montvernier - Tour du Châtel

Starting from St-Jean-de-Maurienne, follow the Mauriennaise to Pontamafrey. The vertiginous Montvernier hairpins, from where you can see climbers on the neighbouring via ferrata, form one of the most impressive roads in the Alps.
A magnificent road and its 18 hairpin bends: Alpe d'Huez and its 21 hairpin bends, famous thanks to the Tour de France, need not worry, as the photo of the 18 Montvernier hairpin bends has graced geography books for some 50 years. It took no less than 6 years of work, between 1928 and 1934, to complete the almost 400 m vertical drop linking the Arc valley to the village of Montvernier. These little twists and turns, piled one on top of the other, clinging to the mountain, make up one of the most spectacular routes in Savoie, and a real challenge for cyclosportifs.

You'll have the opportunity to admire the Lacets de Montvernier as you climb. And once you've reached the summit, you'll be able to see the Aura, the world's largest collective work of art, in Sainte-Marie-de-Cuines.

Only vehicles less than 6 m long and 4 m 15 high may use this route.
