Situated near Les Adrets and Pierre Pin, La Bise combines walking trails with historical heritage, featuring its chapel dating from 1683. This lively hamlet is also home to the Jananka Brewery and its craft beers.

La Bise between heritage and craftsmanship

In the heart of the commune of Fontcouverte-la-Toussuire, the hamlet of La Bise exudes an authentic atmosphere, blending mountain heritage, walking trails and local expertise. Close to Les Adrets, Le Réortier and Pierre Pin, it forms part of a network of hamlets that reveal another side to the mountains.

Here, history blends with local life: the Saint-Claude Chapel, a testament to the village’s religious past, shares the landscape with the Jananka Brewery, where craft beers are now brewed.

The chapel a reminder of the past

At the heart of the hamlet stands the chapel of La Bise, dedicated to Our Lady and Saint Claude. Its history dates back to the early 16th century, with the first building erected in 1512 at a place known as Le Marterey.

Rebuilt over the years, the chapel was moved to La Bise in 1683. It was subsequently reinforced and redecorated in the 19th century, notably with beautiful façade paintings by Antoine Gautheri.

Today, it stands as a testament to the locals’ attachment to their heritage and to the history of the hamlets that make up Fontcouverte-la-Toussuire.

A hamlet at the heart of the paths

La Bise is also an ideal starting point for exploring the walking trails that criss-cross this side of the municipality.

These routes take you to neighbouring hamlets and allow you to explore the countryside, taking in mountain pastures, forests and ancient paths. It’s a gentle way to discover the area, at the pace set by the landscapes and heritage sites that line the routes.

From La Bise, the trails lead, in particular, to Le Crêt, for a walk that combines exploring nature with discovering traces of local history.

The Jananka Brewery local expertise

La Bise is also a thriving hamlet, where genuine artisanal expertise is still very much alive today. Since 2019, the Jananka Brewery has been passionately producing craft beers there.

Pepper-flavoured wheat beer, IPA, amber ale or light lager: the brewery’s creations offer a varied range of flavours, conceived and brewed right in the heart of the hamlet.
