Our environmental commitments

We have been living surrounded by nature for many generations, so we know it well. As a result, we have come to terms with the unique characteristics of the mountain environment and live in harmony with them every day, whatever the season. Nature is all around us – how could we not be committed to preserving it?

Let’s adopt the right reflexes

Because every little bit counts, La Toussuire is here to help you enjoy the mountains whilst protecting them. Discover our ‘Model Skier’ and ‘Model Hiker’ guides – practical guides to help you adopt the right habits on the slopes and trails.

Respect for wildlife, waste management, the preservation of natural areas… a few simple actions enable everyone to contribute to protecting our environment and to pass on a well-preserved mountain environment to future generations.

Waste collection

Every year, after the winter season, the La Toussuire Tourist Office organises a major litter-picking day to preserve the beauty of our mountain environment.

In collaboration with Mountain Riders, and alongside teams from the ESF, the ESI, the ski lift operators and numerous volunteers, this collective effort helps to clean up the slopes and natural areas so that we can continue to enjoy a clean, respected and well-preserved mountain environment.

The Zero CO² Challenge in the Sybelles® ski area

Recognising the challenges posed by climate change, the Sybelles® ski area places environmental protection at the heart of its activities in order to develop a more responsible and sustainable form of tourism.

With an ambitious target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2037, the ski area is implementing a number of initiatives: reducing electricity consumption, optimising snow grooming, cutting water usage, and protecting biodiversity through the creation of areas dedicated to vulnerable species such as the black grouse.

All these measures help to preserve our mountains and shape the future of winter sports in a way that is more respectful of the environment.

Our commitment is also reflected in our actions

As part of its environmental initiative, the La Toussuire Tourist Office is also committed to the transition towards more sustainable transport.

Thanks to a partnership with Alpettaz garage, the Tourist Office has acquired two electric vehicles for its business travel. This initiative helps to reduce the environmental impact of its day-to-day activities whilst promoting transport solutions that are more respectful of our mountain environment.

Through these practical measures, the Tourist Office is continuing its commitment to a more responsible resort, both today and for future generations.

Promoting mobility more responsible

Because the environmental transition also involves how we get around, La Toussuire supports visitors who wish to adopt more environmentally friendly modes of transport.

Several charging points for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles are available in the resort:

Rue des Fondeurs, behind the Le Perce Neige building.
Les Soldanelles Hotel / Restaurant.
CGH Alpaga residence.
Carrefour Montagne

These facilities contribute to the development of more sustainable transport and enable everyone to enjoy the mountains whilst minimising their environmental impact.

A New Lease of Life Renovating for a more sustainable future

La Toussuire is working alongside local stakeholders to bring about the sustainable transformation of its housing stock through the ‘Second Souffle’ programme, launched by Atout France.

This scheme supports the comprehensive renovation of tourist accommodation in mountain resorts, particularly co-owned properties and holiday residences, with a twofold aim: to preserve the resort’s appeal and accelerate its transition towards a more sustainable model.

Fontcouverte Town Council and Remontées Mécaniques des Sybelles® are actively involved in this initiative, which aims to improve the energy efficiency of buildings, reduce energy consumption, enhance the value of the property portfolio and improve the appearance of the accommodation. As part of this initiative, the La Toussuire Tourist Officebuilding has also just been renovated to meet the new standards in force and improve its energy efficiency.

Following a technical assessment and consultation with the owners, each co-ownership association is drawing up a programme of works tailored to its needs. This collective approach helps to improve the comfort of the properties, preserve their value and offer an ever-higher quality experience to both residents and holidaymakers.
