Full speed ahead on the slopes!

Make the most of the tranquillity of the mountains, the snow-covered landscapes and the great outdoors to discover skating in La Toussuire. Fun, dynamic and accessible, this sport offers a different way to enjoy winter, combining physical exertion with the pleasure of gliding.

On the Eriscal plateau, there are two routes where you can enjoy cross-country skiing in complete freedom. The trails are free and open to all: all you have to do is put on your skis and set off!

On your skis, get set, go!

Skating or cross-country skiing What’s the difference?

Although both disciplines are practised on Nordic skis, skating and classic cross-country skiing are not practised in the same way.

Skating, also known as skate-style cross-country skiing, is inspired by the movements of rollerblading or ice skating. The skier moves forwards by pushing off sideways with their legs on a track specifically groomed to allow this style of gliding.

Classic cross-country skiing, on the other hand, is practised in parallel tracks carved out in the snow. The movement is more along the axis of the skis.

Skating therefore offers a particularly dynamic gliding sensation and requires you to quickly find your balance and rhythm.

Preparing for your trip

The skating loops at La Toussuire are multi-purpose trails, also used for hiking and dog sledding. To make the most of your outing, there are a few good habits worth adopting.

It’s best to go out in the morning: the trails will have been freshly groomed, offering better conditions for skating and allowing you to enjoy the glide to the full.

Before you set off, remember to tailor your outing to your ability and make sure you’re wearing warm enough clothing. In the mountains, conditions can change quickly: it’s best to be well-equipped and take the time to enjoy the route.

On multi-activity trails, be mindful of other users and adjust your pace so that everyone can enjoy the mountains in the best possible conditions.
