Cycling itinerary - "Galibier Challenge" cyclosportive route

This cycling itinerary follows in the footsteps of the greatest champions, in the heart of the Alps. From Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne, you start with the Orelle loop, taking you a little further into the Maurienne valley, an ideal warm-up between typical hamlets. You then tackle the Col de Beau Plan via Saint-Martin-la-Porte, a confidential ascent where the road rises in an intimate atmosphere, between forests and alpine pastures, to an exceptional viewpoint. The view is exceptional, with the Fort du Télégraphe on the opposite slope, as well as the majestic peaks of the valley. Little known to cyclists, this pass is a real pleasure for lovers of tranquillity and panoramic views. After the descent into the valley, it's time for the inevitable Col du Télégraphe, the gateway to the mythical Col du Galibier, where the ascent takes place mainly in the middle of a beautiful forest, over a distance of 12km. The final ascent to the Giant of the Alps offers almost 30 km of climbing from Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne, punctuated by sublime panoramas: Croix des Têtes, Grand Perron des Encombres, Cerces massif, Grand Galibier, Pointe de la Meije, Dôme des Écrins and, on a clear day, Mont Blanc. In late spring, the impressive snow walls add to the myth, while in summer, alpine meadows in bloom accompany your progress. The descent to the valley is an opportunity to fully appreciate the route you've taken and the diversity of the landscapes you've crossed.
