Discovering of the Three Crosses

Set off to explore the 3 Croix, a route that combines nature, history and stunning scenery.

This ungroomed trail takes you up to the heights of La Toussuire to a viewpoint offering a 360° view of the surrounding peaks. A lovely walk for hikers seeking peace and authenticity.

The route

The route starts at the junction at Praz Rivier ( the Le Corbier–Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne junction at the entrance to the resort). Take the road that winds down to the left towards the winter caravan site, then follow it all the way to the campsite.

Then take the path that winds down through the trees before crossing the snow-covered meadows to the road.

Head to the hamlet of Les Trembles, cross the road, then take the path leading uphill opposite.

Follow the ridge and the blue markings no. 33 – Montée aux 3 Croix – and you’ll gradually reach the summit. Return via the same route.

The route is ungroomed. Throughout the walk, follow the mauve signs featuring white snowshoes, as well as the blue marker no. 33, to reach the 3 Croix with ease.

This route follows an ungroomed trail. To enjoy the walk safely and make progress more easily in the snow, snowshoes are essential. Do also remember to wear footwear suitable for winter conditions.

Take the time to stop, admire the snow-covered landscapes and take a break at the picnic table set up facing the mountains.

An ideal spot to catch your breath and fully savour the view.

A site steeped in history

The Three Crosses are a valuable testament to the local heritage.

They are the remains of an ancient calvary that once comprised fourteen crosses, erected in the 15th century by the inhabitants of the hamlet of La Rochette to protect the village from the plague.
