Why go on holiday to the mountains in the summer?

Ajouter aux favoris

Have you ever wondered about it, but never quite taken the plunge? Too quiet, too remote, not enough to do? Think again. Contrary to popular belief, the mountains in summer are brimming with unexpected treasures!

1. ABSOLUTE PEACE AND QUIET

Far from the crowded beaches along the coast, the mountains offer you wide open spaces… all to yourself. Here, you’re unlikely to find yourself laying out your picnic blanket next to other walkers. What could be better than listening to the birdsong and the bells of cows grazing peacefully?
Take a stroll along the trails to enjoy the silence and tranquillity, immersed in the heart of nature. We promise you’ll leave feeling calm, relaxed and refreshed.

2. A GOOD BREATH OF FRESH AIR

Take a deep breath… Can you smell it? The fresh mountain air, far from any pollution. This mild, temperate climate, often recommended for respiratory conditions, is ideal for escaping the summer heatwaves.

The gentle breeze makes for pleasant days, whilst the nights remain cool and restful. Here, we breathe deeply and sleep like babies.

 LOCAL COUNCIL

To make the most of the cool weather, our favourite walk is the‘Walk Along the Water’. It follows a small stream, perfect for walking in the shade, dipping your feet in the water and having fun in the river, all whilst following a path that’s accessible to young and old alike.

3. A wide range of activities and entertainment

And no, we don’t get bored in the mountains in summer! Quite the opposite, in fact!

Every year, resorts such as La Toussuire roll out a whole host of activities to appeal to young and old alike. Thrill-seekers can enjoy paragliding, mountain biking, downhill karting or tubing, whilst there are alsohikes, via ferrata routes and gentler walks for families.

Children aren’t forgotten either, with plenty of facilities and dailyactivities organised by the tourist office. You can also enjoy themed weeks, cultural workshops and visits to traditional villages to discover the local treasures.

4. Low prices for a great holiday

And just because there’s so much on offer doesn’t mean your budget has to go through the roof.
Visiting the mountains in summer is a smart choice. Prices are often much lower than at the seaside or in winter: accommodation, restaurants, activities… everything is more affordable.

 LOCAL COUNCIL

Don’t forget to pick up a Pass Partout card in La Toussuire! It gives you access to discounts on a wide range of activities. It’s a great deal! Maximum fun, minimum cost.

5. Gastronomy generous and local

There’s no specific season for enjoying mountain dishes. And here, we take our culinary traditions very seriously. Raclette, fondue, tartiflette… anything goes, even in summer. In La Toussuire, the signature dish is called ‘matouille’: melted cheese, potatoes and vegetables — a real treat.

Don’t miss the weekly market in the heart of the village, where you can chat with local producers and sample regional specialities: Beaufort, goat’s cheeses, artisanal charcuterie… It’s a festival of flavours and conviviality.

6. Wildlife to spot

 a true natural sanctuary

Summer is the perfect time to observe wildlife in the wild. Keep your eyes peeled whilst out walking: marmots, chamois, foxes… a living spectacle in the open air.
Remember to bring your binoculars so you don’t miss a thing, whilst respecting the animals’ peace and quiet. And along the paths, admire the wildflowers: orchids, gentians, edelweiss… Nature is decked out in its most beautiful colours.

Our favourite spot for spotting marmots and chamois?

The Comborcière area.

To spot chamois, it’s best to go at the start and end of the day!

7. Spectacular panoramic views

Take in the view from above and prepare to be awestruck. From La Toussuire, situated on a plateau with 360° views, the panoramas are exceptional. Pastures stretching as far as the eye can see, mountain peaks as a backdrop, and light that changes throughout the day…
A timeless scene, made even more breathtaking by the blazing sunsets over the Aiguilles d’Arves. Every moment becomes a picture postcard.

 LOCAL COUNCIL

For an unforgettable sunset, head to Le Grand Truc! This summit offers a 360° view of all the surrounding mountain ranges — a taste of the wonders the mountains have to offer.

8. Genuine encounters

Choosing the mountains in summer means choosing simplicity and a friendly atmosphere. Here, people take the time to live life to the full, chat and get to know one another. Holidaymakers and locals alike love to share their top tips, have a natter over a drink on a terrace or enjoy a game of pétanque.
Activities are organised every week to encourage people to get together and have a good time. You often leave with wonderful memories… and new friendships.

So, are you ready to take the plunge?

Get away from the crowds, breathe in the fresh air, savour local specialities, set off on an adventure… and let the mountains take you by surprise this summer.
In La Toussuire, everything is in place for a refreshing, accessible and unforgettable holiday.

Why not try a different perspective this year? The mountains are waiting for you.
